My Statement on the Passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

September 21, 2020

We deeply morn the recent passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg. Her life and career were spent giving a voice to the voiceless and standing up for what is right, even when that was not the most popular choice at the time. She was a supporter of the arts and understood the importance it plays in all our lives. She was a crusader for women’s equality and racial equality breaking down barriers so that young Black girls like me could not only dream of attending the nation’s top law school but could actually realize that dream. Justice Ginsburg helped to shape many of the laws we enjoy today that protect the rights of all Americans. She led with integrity, poise, and grace that came from choosing to see the good in people. We all owe her a huge debt of gratitude for giving life to the words “equal justice under the law.” The notorious RGB will be missed.
