Special Needs Network presents Tools for Transformation Conference in Observance of April as Autism Acceptance Month
MEDIA RELEASE
LOS ANGELES – The Special Needs Network (SNN) is excited to announce that New York Times best-selling author and one of the country’s prominent thought leaders Michael Eric Dyson will deliver the keynote address for the 16th annual Tools for Transformation Conference from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the Los Angeles Trade Technical College (LATTC), located at 400 West Washington Blvd. in Los Angeles.
In keeping with the conference’s theme of “Resilience, Resistance and Rebirth – Building Powerful Voices, Families and Communities,” Dyson will speak on racial reckoning, healthcare and education at the conference’s legislative breakfast from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Dyson’s address comes on the 30th anniversary of the LA Civil Unrest. At 3:15 p.m. PDT on April 29, 1992, four police officers were acquitted for the use of excessive force in the videotaped arrest and beating of motorist Rodney King. And in response, Black people took their anger to the streets, setting South Los Angeles on fire with riots, looting and violence that lasted for days.
Breakfast will be served, beginning at 7:30 a.m. with a booksigning of his latest book, “Entertaining Race: Performing Blackness in America” to follow the keynote address. The free one-day conference will run from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and includes complimentary breakfast and lunch; plus a resource fair with more than 50 health and education providers, including the County of Los Angeles and the state of California Department of Developmental Services. In addition, the first 300 participants to register will receive a food box with a week’s supply of food and a home goods package, which includes sheets, blankets and other small household appliances valued at $500.00 in response to food insecurities and loss of income related to the pandemic.
